You're not alone if you feel rushed by life.

These days, many people are overstimulated due to chaotic and hectic lifestyles. I understand that it can be quite difficult to slow down and pause. Even stopping and taking a few minutes to breathe in between tasks can be challenging for some.

I empathise with such individuals, as I used to be one of them.

And if I am being fully honest, there are days when I still feel like I need to race myself through the day, finishing tasks and ticking off mental lists.

It is difficult to tell ourselves in those 'roadrunner' moments that we deserve to pause and take a breather. It is difficult to tell ourselves that our world will not fall apart if we just sip our tea more slowly, observe a child walk past us, or say hello to plants and trees in our garden.

I'm fond of snails.

And during rainy seasons (and when I can find them), I tend to observe and play with them. This act helps me pause and breathe. It helps me connect to the snail within me.

So, I thought of creating a 10-minute reflection meditation to help individuals living a fast-paced life connect with the snail inside of them, the one that can appreciate slow living and slow down.

To do this meditation, I request you to find a quiet space where you can be left undisturbed.

Once you do, please go through this written meditation slowly and at a pace comfortable to your breath, body, mind, and soul.

Once you're ready, please begin reading the meditation script below. I assure you that it is as impactful as an audio meditation clip.

Dear snail and slow living enthusiast,

I request you to sit down or lie down, gently.

Now, I request you to begin breathing gently.

If you can, please make sure that you're not disturbed by the people around you.

Listen to the sounds that are within you, instead.

Listen to your heartbeat, if you can.

Listen to the pace of your breath.

Listen to your stomach rhythms.

Listen to your thoughts. What are they calling your attention to?

Listen to your emotions. What do you feel the most in this moment?

Listen to your energy. What is it asking you to do?

Now, take a few slow breaths.

Without closing your eyes, imagine a snail in your mind.

Now, imagine this snail to be moving slowly but steadily. Let it be moving in a stream of rainwater or in a wet, planted pot.

Pick what comforts your mind. You can imagine a totally different place for the snail, too. Maybe, for you, it could be in a jungle, over the clouds, or sliding on a slide.

It doesn't matter.

Now, let the snail move at a pace that is so slow that it must make you wonder, 'I wish I were that snail right now. I would feel so relaxed and chilled out.'

Give yourself a minute to imagine it crawling.

Once you have found some degree of comfort with this image, ask yourself, 'what would it take for me to slow down to this speed, now. What would it take for me to transport into the snail world and be a snail, even if it is just for a few minutes? What am I really going to lose?'

Now, allow the snail to connect you to the intelligence in you that already knows what slow living could mean to you, again, even if it means for you to live slowly for 10-minutes.

This intelligence could shape itself in the form of a thought, feeling, emotion, image, knowing, or energy.

Listen to it.

Appreciate it.

Welcome it.

Embrace it.

Ask this intelligence, 'dear snail intelligence in me, what can I do to slow down, now?'

Take a few minutes to understand the answer.

This answer could be as simple as drinking a cup of tea, taking a nap, or going to a cafe to wind down.

Whatever it may be for you, let it be.

Don't judge it.

Once you get an answer, thank the snail intelligence in you, knowing that every time you feel overwhelmed or stimulated, you can come back to this intelligence for guidance.

When you feel ready, please get back your attention to the room and feel free to act on your snail intelligence immediately.

Thank you for joining me in this written, reflective meditation.

I wish you a good day ahead!
